Surveys and field measures for nature conservation
Animal temporary keeping at the Herpetological Station
We save wild animals at the sites where wild animals and plants are threatened e.g. by construction of supermarkets/shopping centres or new roads or by mining spoil heap enlargement. All amphibians, reptiles and other small animals are captured and immediately transported into the Herpetological Station in Hradec Králové (eastern Bohemia). They are located in keeping tanks by the time they can be re-introduced into their original sites or released into substitute or compensatory sites.
Wild animal temporary keeping can last for a long time, including over winter. If possible, we remove a driver affecting wild animals at the respective site and then, after consulting the Nature Conservancy Agency of the Czech Republic, we release them into the original habitats. If that is no longer possible, we find new suitable habitats and after consulting the Nature Conservancy Agency of the Czech Republic, we release the animals there. The activity can also be applied in various building constructions or building restoration activities, e.g. of railroad tracks and their embankments where reptiles very often occur or overwinter.
